La Veta Library to close Wednesday, March 18 at 1 pm

Update from Director Tony Masinton March 17, 2020 @ 4:30pm

La Veta Public Library will close its building on Wednesday, March 18, at 1pm.  All events, programs, and meetings will also be cancelled.  The building will remain closed until at least April 6.  There will be no fines charged for any items currently checked out.

The American Libraries Association has advised all public libraries to shut their doors.  Most of the public libraries in Colorado have already closed their buildings.  Huerfano County remains low-risk, with no cases reported at the time of this posting.  However, I feel the Library can best serve the community now by closing the building.

Although the Library doors will be closed, many Library services will continue to operate:

The Library’s public wifi will remain open and available to all.
We will share resources and updates through our Facebook page throughout the closure period.
On Thursday the 19th, and Friday the 20th between 10am and 12pm Library staff will be available to answer your questions by phone.
The book drop will remain open for you to return materials.
There are thousands of movies, documentaries, and education courses available for streaming right now through Kanopy.
Thousands of ebooks and e-audiobooks are available through the 3m Cloud Library.
The online education databases we offer will be especially useful as school kids transition from in-person to remote learning.

Next week Library staff will gather to come up with other ways for the Library to serve the community.  Watch this space.  The Library building may be closed, but the Library itself remains in-service.  Thank you for your tremendous support!
