On Wednesday, Feb. 24, the following was posted on the La Veta School District Facebook page:

Today, La Veta School District has confirmed positive test results for COVID-19 for five individuals, with cases spanning both the elementary and secondary schools. After consultation with the Las Animas-Huerfano Counties Health Department, the following plans are in place for the immediate future:

  • All grades will remain in remote learning next week, with a planned return to in-person learning on Monday, March 8.
  • Materials for remote learning for elementary students will be available for pick-up on Monday, March 1 between 7:45 and 8:45 a.m.
  • Wrestlers will be allowed to continue practicing and competing as they have been in a single, remote cohort since February.
  • Basketball games scheduled for this weekend have been cancelled and high school practices are suspended through March 2. HS practices are scheduled to resume on March 3. The game vs. Hoehne on March 4 has been cancelled. The home games scheduled for March 5 and 6 remain on the calendar. Junior high basketball practices will resume on March 8.
  • FFA & Knowledge Bowl both have virtual contests scheduled. Students may come onto campus under precautions to compete if necessary to access Wi-Fi.
  • La Veta Schools will be distributing food boxes next week for families who request them, including both breakfast and lunch. More information will be shared soon about how to reserve and when to pick up boxes.
